Midway Through the Season: What Your Landscape Needs Right Now

Can you believe we’re already halfway through the year—and halfway through the landscape season? It’s around this point each summer when we start getting the calls: “My plants are drooping,” or “Why is my lawn going brown?” And honestly, those are great questions to be asking right now.

Mid-season is a key time to check in on the health of your landscape. Whether we installed your irrigation system, maintain your strata property, or you’re just trying to keep your own garden looking its best—we’ve got some tips to help you navigate the second half of the season successfully.

Mid-Season Irrigation Checks: Is Your System Still Performing?

By now, your irrigation system has been up and running for a couple of months. But as the weather heats up and water demand increases, mid-season is a smart time to have a quick inspection or adjustment done. Heads might have shifted, zones may be underperforming, or coverage might not be what it was in May.

Even small inefficiencies can lead to stressed or under-watered plants, especially during hot, dry stretches. If your lawn is turning brown in patches, or you notice drooping foliage in the morning, it’s a strong sign your system might need a tune-up—or you may need to adjust your watering schedule.

Watering Smarter, Not Harder

A healthy landscape in July and August doesn’t mean watering every day—it means watering deeply and infrequently, and at the right times. Early morning is ideal, especially for turf, to allow absorption before the heat of the day. Shallow, frequent watering can actually hurt your lawn and plants by encouraging weak roots.

Also, remember that not all plants have the same needs. Some established shrubs or drought-tolerant species might only need a light refresh, while annuals or shallow-rooted plants could need a bit more love during prolonged dry spells.

Time for Fertilizer (and Maybe Some Weed Control)

Mid-season is also the perfect window for a fertilizer application. Your plants and lawn have been working hard—pushing out growth, blooming, and trying to recover from heat stress. Giving them a balanced fertilizer now can provide a solid second wind for late summer color and vitality.

If you’ve noticed weeds starting to creep back in, this is a good time for targeted weed control too. Catching them mid-season keeps them from going to seed and spreading further.

Design-Build Projects: Planning Ahead Pays Off

If you’ve been thinking about a landscape renovation, outdoor living space, or garden overhaul, here’s the truth: by midsummer, a lot of landscapers are already booked into next year. And while we always try to accommodate, late-season availability often means working at a premium—or on a compressed timeline.

If you’re serious about getting a project done right, now’s the time to start the design and planning process. You don’t have to rush. You can take the rest of this season to work with our design team, fine-tune your ideas, and lock in a priority spot for spring 2026. That means no scrambling next year—and a landscape that’s ready to shine by summer.
